For
over 10 years, Katie Roberts has built a solid reputation in
communications and media. After earning a master's degree in journalism
from the University of Colorado in Boulder, Colorado, Katie headed to
the Northwest and launched her career through a television reporting job
for the ABC affiliate, KAPP, in Yakima, Washington. After nearly two
years as an on-camera journalist, news writer and photographer, she then
switched to the print realm and returned to Colorado. There, she
accepted a position as managing editor for VOWS: Magazine, the wedding
industry's award-winning trade publication. For five years, Katie
directed editorial content for VOWS:, managed a freelance writing staff
of approximately 10 reporters, and won an award for her writing from the
National Association of Business Publication Editors.
In 2006, Katie and her
husband, John, decided to start a family. So at that point, she left her
position as managing editor and launched a freelance writing business
in Summit County, Colorado. Since then, Katie has quickly grown her
home-based venture by focusing on compelling, concise and creative
writing for a diverse array of clients. She excels in taking a direct,
down-to-earth approach with all her writing, whether it's a press
release, book proposal, training manual, magazine feature or newsletter.
Katie Roberts was raised on
the pristine, diamond-white beaches of Pensacola, Florida. But she also
spent much of her youth with family in Tennessee's Appalachian
Mountains, the great Southern city of New Orleans, and on the Chesapeak
waters of Annapolis, Maryland. In 1994, she earned a bachelor of arts
from the University of the South, a small, highly unique liberal arts
college in Sewanee, Tennessee. Majoring in French, living in France, and
pursuing a love for English literature helped solidify Katie's
technical grammar education, and it also provided her with a deeper,
holistic understanding of language, writing and communication.
In addition to her writing career, Katie helped launch and led the
Summit
Independent Business Alliance (www.summitindependentbusiness.com) in
Summit County, Colorado. A
grassroots, non-profit organization dedicated to bolstering local,
independent businesses, SIBA is a great example
of Katie's passions, talents and experience coming into fruition.
Through SIBA, Katie worked to educate people about the importance of
supporting the local economy and empowered mom-and-pop businesses with
new tools and strategies for success. She also grew this organization
from a seedling start-up group into a vibrant, large business league
within just a few years.
Today, Katie lives in Hood
River, Oregon, where she's an avid outdoor enthusiast. Living in
Columbia River Gorge area, she's likely to be out and about exploring
the area, hiking, skiing and playing with her life's best achievements
to date -- her children. In whatever she does, Katie's philosophy take a
caring, conscientious approach to her endeavors. This has become a true
style, which you can expect to experience when you hire Katie to tackle
your writing, editing or proofreading projects, no matter how big or
small they may be.
