Based in Sisters, Ore., Katie provides freelance communication services to organizations and individuals throughout Oregon and beyond. Her experience in a wide range of industries gives her an understanding of the common communication challenges many leaders face. Whether working in healthcare, education, leadership, technology, travel, nonprofit, book or other industries, Katie works collaboratively with clients to help them amplify their voices and have a deeper impact.
Most recently, Katie served as the communications and outreach manager for Camp Fire Central Oregon while building on her copyediting services for emerging authors, proofreading books, coaching and advising other writers, and working on her own nonfiction novel. While Katie embraces Artificial Intelligence for specific, highly useful purposes, she's doubled down on the importance of the human touch and critical thinking when producing truly authentic content. Most recently, she's enjoyed working on legal projects, copyediting for a law firm that's required to protect its work with human-verified services. People who wish for a human being who is caring and capable in regard to their content needs will find a solid professional resource in Katie.

Beginnings & Background...
Katie grew up surrounded by a family of strong writers and communication professionals. She attended the University of the South in Sewanee, Tenn., where she earned a bachelor’s degree in French. After college, where she had the good fortune of studying abroad in France, she moved to Colorado. There, she earned a master’s degree in journalism and mass communications from the University of Colorado in Boulder, then landed a job as a television reporter for ABC in Yakima, Wash.
After a couple of years, Katie shifted to print journalism, accepting a position back in Colorado as managing editor of the bridal industry’s 30+-year-old, award-winning business magazine: VOWS Magazine. Five years into that role and newly married, she realized her entrepreneurial dreams and launched her own writing and communications business. Today, she still writes for VOWS, one of several longtime clients.
Katie has worked for hundreds of brands, businesses and individuals, doing everything from ghostwriting and copyediting books to delivering 1,000+ press releases, blogging, crafting case studies, magazine writing, editing for publishers, proofreading and building communication plans.
For several years, while managing her own business, Katie also launched and ran a nonprofit independent business alliance in her county—an initiative that grew to 300+ organizations in three short years, increasing economic vitality for the county and empowering the alliance members with innovative marketing and business development strategies. She also served as a contract marketing director for a major health organization serving over 12,000 patients. She loves not just working for businesses but on businesses, and has advised a number of clients as they’ve started or grown their companies over the years.
A Personal Note
Outside the office, Katie spends her free time with her husband, two teenagers and their corgi, enjoying the extraordinary beauty of the high desert and Cascade Mountains. Engaging with nature—skiing, hiking and lake time with the friends and family she loves—gives her healthy breaks from screens and a chance to connect with and recharge in nature.
