About Katie Roberts
Owner/Founder, WriteOnPoint! Communications
When you hire a freelance communication partner, you want someone you trust. Based in Central Oregon, Katie Robert’s experience as a journalist, award-winning managing editor, marketing director, nonprofit founder/director, and business owner will directly impact how you get your point across, build understanding with audiences, and tell your story.
Katie grew up in a family of strong writers. Her grandfather was a famous Southern novelist, critic, and editor. Her father is an advertising agency owner, public relations expert and multi-media journalist. They inspired and shaped her writing skills throughout her youth. In college
at the University of the South (Sewanee, Tenn.), she focused on English, then switched to French. She embraced the good fortune of both living and working in France during college. There, she absorbed and came to fully appreciate the complex, robust beauty of that romance language and how it defines and reflects the French “brand.”
After receiving her bachelor’s degree, graduating with honors, Katie moved to Colorado. Amid the glorious Rocky Mountains, she felt happy, healthy and whole. Yet determined to further nurture her expressive, creative nature—and set on a mission to tell stories about the truth and the good in life—she returned to school, earning a master’s in journalism and mass communication from the University of Colorado in Boulder.
Katie double-majored in both print and television journalism, and interned for “Boulder Daily Camera” and 9News, Denver’s NBC station. All this education and experience gave her several career paths choices. The decision wasn’t easy. She wanted to do it all!
And in a way, she has done it. Katie first covered hard news and the “Health” and “Education” beats for the ABC affiliate in Yakima, Wash. She then moved back to Colorado to serve as managing editor of the bridal industry’s 30+-year-old, award-winning business magazine, VOWS: Magazine. Five years into that position and now married, she launched her own business in writing and communications. She continued to work for VOWS, her client now for 20 years.
Katie has worked for hundreds of brands, businesses and individuals, doing everything from ghostwriting books to delivering 1,000+ press releases, blogging, crafting case studies, magazine writing, editing for publishers, proofreading and building communication plans. For several years, while managing her own business, Katie also launched and ran a nonprofit independent business alliance in her county—an initiative that grew its membership to 300+ organizations in three short years, increasing economic vitality for the county and empowering the alliance members with co-op marketing campaigns, business development services, leadership training, greater financial success, and a better understanding of their own community worth. She also served as a contract marketing director for a major health organization serving over 12,000 patients.
What’s unique about Katie and her skillset is that she’s worked and written for so many industries—healthcare, education, retail/sales, leadership, business management, technology, travel and government, just to name a few.
Based now in Central Oregon near the cities of Bend, Redmond and Sisters, Katie works as freelance communications specialist.
When she’s not busy working, Katie spends her free time with her husband and two children, enjoying the extraordinary beauty of the high desert and Cascade Mountains. Engaging with nature—skiing, hiking and paddle boarding with the friends and family she loves—revives her regularly and sustains focus on the good in life and all that matters most.
